CRM Training: Anytime, Anywhere!

Full CRM Initial Training Course now available online

International Standards for Business Aircraft (IS-BAO) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)  have recognized the need for CRM training.    14 C.F.R. § 135.330, effective March 22, 2011 now makes CRM a training requirement for all part 135 carriers.

Following the great success and popularity of our CRM Recurrent topics, we now have a full CRM Initial course available online for Business Aviation.  The full course includes the following topics:

• Introduction to Crew Resource Management

  This course begins with background discussion which includes a brief history of CRM in commercial aviation.  We summarize the primary Crew performance Indicators and examine some of the actual aircraft accidents that became the catalyst for the CRM industry initiative. 

• Communications

  Effective communication is defined by an exchange of ideas between two or more persons. This course examines the basic principles of effective communication using examples of what works, as well as communication failures that have resulted in aircraft accidents. Communication is essential to effective Team Building and ultimately, effective Crew Resource Management.

• Team Building

  Team Building starts with leadership. Leadership is not inherent; it is a skill attained, developed, demonstrated and applied to build an effective team. This portion of CRM training includes discussion of team intelligence, secure authority, conflict management, operational stresses and the dynamics of leadership/followership.

• Workload Management

  Workload Management includes initiation of new tasks, and monitoring of on-going tasks to maintain maximum performance and efficiency of operations. Effective Workload Management can make the difference between success and failure in critical situations. This course covers task prioritization and distribution, time management automation management/awareness and situational awareness.

• Technical Proficiency

  Prior to the inception of the CRM “culture”, Technical Proficiency was thought to be the primary measure of pilot performance, measured almost exclusively by stick and rudder skills. Technical Proficiency, however, is a discipline that requires a clear understanding of and adherence to Company policies, regulations, and checklists, in addition to flying skills. In this course, the student will gain deeper insight into the critical role of professionalism and flight discipline. Accident analysis will demonstrate the importance of compliance, as well as the devastating consequences of intentional non-compliance.

• Threat and Error Management

  Threat and Error Management is a natural follow-on to Crew Resource Management and is the product of collective industry experience providing a principled approach to the challenging complexities that occur at the intersection of human performance and highly technical environments. This course offers a unique insight into risk management theory, strategies, awareness and mitigation in a high reliability environment.

• Conflict Resolution

  Conflict is an unavoidable aspect of life. At times, conflict even presents itself in an aircraft. Conflict Resolution is a process designed to mitigate the source of a dispute, or minimize the impact of differences with the goal of maintaining acceptable levels of safety.

• Accident Review

  The commitment of the aviation industry to learn from past mistakes is the primary reason for the phenomenal impact of CRM training on safety. Throughout the entire CRM course structure, we analyze numerous aircraft accidents as they relate to individual topics. In addition, this course offers an entire module with detailed analysis of one accident or a series of accidents that relate to a particular topic of interest.

Course material is presented in an engaging format where every topic is broken down into manageable units that can be completed in fifteen to twenty minute online sessions.
